Subject Area & Credits
Math – 4 Credits
Must include: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and a fourth higher-level math course
Science – 3 Credits
Must include: Biology and Chemistry or Physics
English – 4 Credits
Must include: English I, English II, English III, and English IV or an advanced-level sequence
Computer Science – 1 Credit
Freshmen are required to complete one credit in Computer Science
Social Studies – 3 Credits
Must include: World History/Geography, U.S. Government (.5 Credit), U.S. History, and Economics (.5 Credit)
Three credits of JROTC may substitute for .5 credit in U.S. Government
Physical Education – 1.5 Credits
Must include: 1 credit in Wellness and .5 credit in Physical Education
Two credits of JROTC may substitute for one credit of Wellness
An additional .5 credit in PE may be waived with documented participation in a GHS team sport or other school-approved physical activity
Personal Finance – .5 Credit
Typically paired with Economics (.5 Credit) and often offered in 12th grade
Foreign Language – 2 Credits (Same Language)
May be waived for students not planning to attend a university in order to expand elective focus
Fine Art – 1 Credit
May be waived for students not planning to attend a university in order to expand elective focus
Options include Art, Chorus, or Band
Elective Focus – 3 Credits
Must complete three credits in the same elective area:
Math & Science
Career & Technical Education (CTE)
Fine Arts
JROTC
Humanities
Students completing a CTE elective focus must complete three units in the same CTE program
Additional Graduation Requirements
28 total credits required for graduation
Students must take the ACT test
Students must take and pass the Grainger County Civics Test
